Now Subscribe to Facebook User’s

Facebook is now improving and adding more features , for providing better privileges to User’s in terms of Friend Groups and content viewing. After bringing Smart List for users, Facebook would soon add a Subscribe button on every user’s profile to follow their updates in the News Feed.

Besides, more lists have been added along with the Smart Lists:

  • Closest Friends
  • Acquaintance
  • Restricted Lists.

Their names suggests what they are meant for and friends are needed to be added there manually.  So they are just an added filter to restrict your own specific update to few persons you want to see.

Being a lot like Google+ or Twitter‘s asymmetric sharing system, this feature is said to be a copied concept. Whatever be it, whether Smart Lists or Subscriptions, Facebook is trying hard to satisfy every stream of users, providing them freedom from the root level. These features are expected to bring advantages to the users, making accounts more personalized.

While customized News Feed had been made available since last year, subscribed feed would be different since posts of users not in our Friend list can also be viewed under it. This attempt makes our profiles more public (That’s where the asymmetric concept comes).

So user’s have following category of updates

  • All updates: Everything your friend posts.
  • Most updates: The amount you’d normally see.
  • Important updates only: Just highlights, like a new job or move. (Courtesy: Facebook Blog)

So sharing a post as public lets users , who have subscribed your profile, regardless of their presence in your friend list, view your posts and updates. Besides you can view your customized Closest Friends and Acquaintances’ feeds. And finally it would be easier to hide your particular feeds from your Boss or your Girlfriend ;-) , by including them in the Restricted Lists.

Rolled out in the f8 Conference, Facebook also mentioned that Pages, much like the Subscription concept was and will be available for public sharing, whereas the difference lies in the other features Pages offered, like Insights, Advertisement and more control over the sharing and publicity. Thus Subscription is meant for better user sharing and Pages were and are meant for showcasing a personality or a group over rather large audience.

You may start using Subscription by enabling it through this page.
