The Facebook mobile: Vodafones 555 Blue launched 2

Vodafone Essar, in collaboration with Facebook, launches Vodafone 555 Blue phone, having heavy integration with Facebook components. This device is aimed specially for youth and Social Networking Geeks.

Priced at an affordable figure i.e., INR. 4950, this phone features most of the initial multimedia requirements of an Internet-based mobile phone. With QWERTY keypad, for easy messaging, a dedicated FB button for quick access, 2.5 G network with dual band, EDGE capability, and unlimited access to Facebook offered by Vodafone, this device would be a delight for Social Networking freaks.

Other specs include 2.4″ TFT 256k display with QVGA resolution, a rather slow processor, 200 MHz MTK6235, 2 MP camera with flash, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, FM radio, 40 MB inbuilt memory with support for maximum 16 G.B external memory. Dimensions scale as- 110 mm long, 61.1 mm wide, and 12 mm thick. The 1000 mAh battery is claimed to juice up for 175 minutes of talk time and 324 hours standby.

Facebook integration would be visible right from the Home Screen of the phone, since it sports FB’s “What’s on your mind ?” section for posting updates right from the Home screen. Besides, there are notifications, messages, friends and messages icon below. Developers have tried to make Facebook components as a complete internal organ, delivering access without any hassle.

Besides other Social Networking apps like Palringo Chat suite (supporting Google talk, ichat, XMPPm ICQ, gadu-gadu, and AIM), an E-Mail client with POP3 and IMAP support is also available for access to other online networks.

Setting up another example of Social Networking penetration in daily life, Vodafone Blue can help in enhancing on-the-go connectivity, besides creating more opportunities for Vodafone customers and the Industry.

We are looking to capture the replacement market which is huge in India. We have focused on sharp functionality and eliminated the frills in order to make the product affordable. Around 40-50% of the population accessing data on our network is on Facebook so this is a huge potential,” said Kumar Ramanathan, CMO, Vodafone Essar.

This phone would be available across 4000 outlets in India and there are plans to upgrade the device with 3G, Wi-Fi and more Regional Language support in future.
